Organic beauty and natural products continue to grow in popularity - we took a deeper look into why this trend is so important for your skin and our plant. Are you curious too? Then read on. And obviously we did a quick round up of our favourite organic beauty brands whilst we’re here!
Did you know that approx 60% of all products you put in your skin end up in your blood stream? I know that it isn't something I was thinking about- but your skin is a very absorbsent organ and laps up everything. Pretty scary how easy it is to rub whatever onto our bodies wihtout really thinking about it, don't you think?
Organic skin care should be made to the same standard as organic food. That means there are no harsh chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers used throughout the process. Sometimes chemical ingredients are used in beauty products as a filler and in the long run these do more harm than good, possibly causing irritation and clogged pores.
Conventional cosmetics can also contain a high percentage of petroleum-based ingredients, such as phthalates and parabens. Although these are regulated to be safe for use in cosmetics - it's still important to balance out this usage with some natural organic ingredients such as coconut oil, aloe vera and shea butter which can neutralise, moisturise and nourish your skin and hair.
In addition to the potential affects on your skin, those pesky parabens and plastic microfibres are bad for the environment. A tale we're all familiar with; plastic microfibres in cosmetics used to wash your face make their way down the train and then all the way to the ocean, which is having a detrimental affect on sea wild life.
Whereas organic farming is also better for wildlife, causes lower pollution from pesticide and fertilizer sprays, and produces less carbon dioxide and less dangerous wastes - but it does use a whoooole lot more water. At the end of the day, all consumption does have an affect on our planet and we can't forget about it.
There are some other knock on affects of chosing organic beauty products- these brands are typically pro planet, people and animals which means their products are not tested on animals.
That’s why we think it’s about time to make some edits to your beauty regime and opt for organic beauty products, natural make-up and hand creams. And we’ve got some ideas to help you with where you should start!
